Finnish Language Discussion Group
Papupata
Papupata is a discussion club for anyone struggling to learn Finnish. The aim is to provide a free and relaxed opportunity to use Finnish in different ways, especially by speaking it, as there are only sometimes enough opportunities to do so in language courses. The discussion group is open to anyone interested in learning the basics of Finnish. The group is facilitated by a Red Cross instructor who will lead the discussion. For more information: papupata.kerho@gmail.com. You do not need to register for the group. You can join us at any time. |
Saturday Chats
Saturdays 15.00-17.00 at Familia's office (Haapaniemenkatu 7-9 B, 10th floor, 00530 Helsinki, Finland). Saturday Conversations is open to anyone with a basic command of Finnish. Familia volunteer Outi Heikkilä will lead the group. More information: allison.abdile@familiary.fi, 04578355009 |
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONs
WHO CAN TAKE PART in FAMILIA'S FINNISH LANGUAGE COURSES?
Familia's Finnish language courses are primarily aimed at people who have a Finnish spouse who want to learn and develop their Finnish language skills under the guidance of professional teachers. The courses take into account the opportunities offered by the Finnish-speaking spouse and close circle to support the study of the Finnish language. The teaching also takes into account the student's everyday language use needs and interactions.
Spouses who speak Finnish as their mother tongue are expected to play an active role and be motivated, for example, by participating in homework and meetings in addition to the course. Aside from learning the language, both the student and the Finnish spouse receives peer support and can network with others who are in the same life situation. Familia's course offerings are the only Finnish language courses that take into account the everyday life of multicultural families in terms of content and teaching atmosphere.
